Easy Check Home Remedy For Bed Bugs – Have You Got It?

Having an easy check home remedy for bed bugs will pay you dividends.

Once you have it installed you will get on-going information about whether you have bed bugs or not….

You will also get a good idea of where they come from and where they go to.

And, probably the best of all is that , if you like to do-it-yourself, it doesn’t cost much to buy, but it is also easy for you to make your own.

Why Are Bed Bugs Called Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs came to be known as bed bugs because their favourite place to go is to a bed where they can drink blood while their source is asleep.

These little critters like to come out from their hiding places and go feed upon whoever is asleep in their bed.

The most popular time for eating is just before dawn.

And so if you put these “Easy Check” bowls to monitor or capture bed bugs – putting them where the bed bugs would most likely climb onto the bed – you will be on a winner.

This Is How An Easy Check Home Remedy For Bed Bugs Works

Place a bed bug easy check capture bowl under each foot of the bed

Brush some baby talcum powder along the inside and in the hollows of the capture unit. The talcum powder is needed because it prevents the bed bugs from escaping up the sides because it coats their feet and they are then unable to get a grip to climb out.

Side Note Check the label on the talcum powder you plan to use to make sure you are buying baby talcum powder and not corn-starch powder.
The talcum powder can be applied to the inside walls of the capture unit with a fine brush or with a ball of cotton wool.

You will see that there are two “moats” on the commercial version (see picture above).

When you check the unit each morning you will see that any bed bugs wanting to LEAVE the bed will be trapped in the inner ring nearest the bed leg. Bed bugs wanting to climb ONTO the bed will be trapped in the outer ring nearest the bedroom floor.

Make sure you dispose of the bed bugs carefully. A common method of disposal is to:-

Put the bed bugs into a plastic bag.
Tie the bag into a knot to seal it
Put that plastic bag into another one
Tie up and seal the second bag.

Make sure there are no openings for the bed bugs to escape. And then put them into the trash outside.

However, I do believe that some people stand on the bed bugs to crush them, although I am not sure how humane this method is.

But whatever you do, make sure none escape or they will just multiply and come back again.

How To Make Your Own Bed Bug Capture Unit

To make your own easy check home remedy for bed bugs you can use a regular bowl (see picture on right).

What type of bowl is best? The main requirement is that the bed bugs can climb up the side of the bowl to get into it.

If the bowls you plan using are too slippy you can glue some fabric onto the outsides – or use an adhesive tape such as duck tape – but make sure the tape reaches the floor and that it is well sealed along the top edge. You definitely don’t want the bed bugs getting stuck underneath the tape.

Each of the four or six bed legs will stand in one of these bowls.

And then prepare each bowl by pouring in some soapy water until the bowl is approximately half full (of course this means that this method is not suitable for beds with wooden legs).

The water needs to be soapy in order to lessen the surface tension of the water so that the bed bugs do not float on the surface and paddle across to the bed. With soap in the water they will sink and drown.

Precautions Make sure the bowls are checked regularly, dead bed bugs removed, and fresh soapy water used to top up the water level.
You also need to make sure that the bed is away from the wall and that bed sheets do not drape onto the floor – otherwise the bed bugs will be able to climb the sheets and thus avoid the trap.
